How to Create the Perfect Robots.txt File for SEO? BY Rahul Mathur | 02 January, 2021 | Views (73)

Many webmasters do not take time to use robots.txt file for their website. For search engine spiders that use a robots.txt file to look for directories to search for robots, the robots.txt file can be very useful for spiders to index your actual pages, not other information, Like checking your data.

The robots.txt file is useful to prevent your spiders from accessing part and file folders in your hosting directory that are unrelated to the actual content on your website. You can choose to keep spiders out of areas that contain programming that search engines cannot properly analyze and exclude them from the web statistics section of your site.

Many search engines cannot correctly view dynamically generated content primarily created by programming languages, such as PHP or ASP. If you have an online store that is programmed into your hosting account and is in a separate directory, it would be wise to block spiders from this directory so that it can only find relevant information.

The robots.txt file should be placed in the directory where your main hosting files are located. Therefore, you would be advised to create a blank text file and save it as robots.txt, and then upload it to your web host in the same file as your index.html file.

Here are examples of using robots.txt file:

  • User-agent: [user-agent name]Disallow: [URL string not to be crawled]
  • User-agent: * Disallow:
  • User-agent: Googlebot Disallow: /example-subfolder/
  • User-agent: Bingbot Disallow: /example-subfolder/blocked-page.html
